Intro to Basic Bike Fitting with Fit Kit
You may have heard of the Fit Kit and have a vague
idea of what we're all about, but don't have a clear understanding of what
we strive to accomplish. Our goal is to help you find a safe developmental starting position on your bike. Whether you are a recreational bike rider or an elite athlete, you should be properly fit for your bike. At the end of this page we have provided a link to our store locator where you can find a Fit Kit Dealer in your area.
The Fit Kit is a collection of precision measuring tools and a compilation
of tables developed over twenty years of research, using as its basis, a wide
cross-section of bike riders from recreational to elite level. In the Fit Kit,
we have developed a concise, efficient and trainable means of obtaining a
bike rider's body measurements and personal information including your riding preferences, age and flexibility.
This information can then
be used to determine your three main contact points with your bike:
the pedals, the saddle and the handlebars. These three fit points or zones can then
be translated into a frame and components that will accommodate these points
of contact.
The riding position Fit Kit recommends is safe and
developmental. This information can also be used effectively to solve common
fitting problems such as stress or discomfort that you may have experienced on your bike. Fit Kit Dealers are professional, caring individuals who love to ride bikes like you, and they have taken the time to learn our effective fitting system to help you experience the same joy in riding your bike. If you want to find a Fit Kit Dealer in your area, please use our U.S. Store Locator or International Store Locator.
If you use a clipless pedal systems on your bike such as Time, Look, Shimano or others, we have a cleat alignment system that will properly align your cleat to accomodate the natural gate of your foot during the pedaling stroke. This device is called the Rotational Adjustment Device or RAD.
